Young Thai Women who have Benefitted from Our Programs

The following are excerpts from letters written in English by our students:

Lamyai Pakasit (Yai)

"I had one son, he is 8 years old and we live in Bangkok. I worked at Gourmet Gallery restaurant, it is European foods. I worked in this job about 11 years. How I can speak English? I tried to learn by myself. I use to learn by 79 hours book. But it a little bit to learn. One day my friend told me about language school. It is Goodwill. I started basic because I can't speak, I can't read and I can't write. I happy I know English. Eventual the Goodwill made me can read, can write and can speak conversation."



Sangsuree Pluemjai (Jeed)

"Now, I working in the factory for 7 years. I am in cutting section. This factory made under-ware. I work on Monday-Saturday, 9 hour day. I earn 185 B/day. Sometimes I not enjoy my work. I would like to change. I told my family I want to study but I still send money to them. 5 Years ago I though it difficult to study because I had a problem in family. My father he like to drink whisky, my mother didn't have any money, my sister and brother are young children. My cousin working in the factory for 20 years, but I don't want. I would like to have a new experience in other job. They told me don't you built the castle in the air, is impossible.

First time I came here with my friends and they told me Goodwill is very far from our house. I was agree with them but I want to study. I enjoy every time I come. I met new friends, they told me a lot of things. Goodwill gave me a big chance of education. I learning a lot of things from here. This is my second house. I happy when I come. I didn't lonely in the world. Everyone listen to me when I have a problem."



Siriwan Kwansri (Pook)

"I didn't finish primary school because my mom moved so I had to go with her because of my family had problems. I started working when I was 12 years old. I worked at a small restaurant in a food market. I worked from 3am to 6pm and earned about 50 B/day. After I worked in other restaurant and then we moved again. I was maid for 3 years. Then I had to move and stayed with my aunt. I helped her family with everything at home. I had to take care of my nephew and take care of my sister because she was sick. She had to stay in hospital for 7 months and then she passed away.

One day my cousin told me about the Goodwill Group Foundation which teaches English and computers. I was interested and I want to go there. The first time I went to apply to be a student I met Mr. Enrique and we had chat together, but at that time I need some one to translate. I studied from the beginning because I didn't know any thing about English. I never been learned English before now I can speak, write, read and understand much better than before. I can speak with foreigners.



Napaporn Sornking (Oil)

"I study finished high school from Nontreewittaya school for adults. After that I work at T.P.S. company. I work about lubricating oil since 2000 until 2001. Then I know Goodwill Foundation from Twilight show by channel 3. After that I apply for study English here. I study English here almost 4 years. Now I work at Tawandang Brew house. It's a restaurant. I'm an assistant bartender. Everyday Tawandang have many people and foreigner come to visit here. I have to speak English with foreigner. Although I can speak English not well, but I can speak English better than 3 years ago.

Goodwill give an opportunity with me and many Thai women for study English. I'm happy when I go to study at Goodwill. Every volunteer intend to teach, so it make me don't be afraid when I speak with them and everybody are friendly. Now I'm happy with my life and try to move my life getting better."



Arisara Suviboon (Ann)

"I work as an operator. I have been working here for 2 years. I have been looking for the place where I can learn English for months since 2003, but most of them are expensive. Then I knew from my friend that there's a place where they teach English for women who have little salary. I's interested in at once and came to apply. I enjoy studying here very much. I hope I will get a job and have higher salary in the future." Nongnit Donntisong (Nid) Nid has been studying with us over 2 years. She is a musical teacher assistant in a private school. She attends evening class at Goodwill on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.

"I am very happy to study here. Many times I was trying to save up some money to study in a language school but I never succeed as it is very expensive. Before study at Goodwill, I met foreign customers but I was scared and shy to talk to them. After few English classes at Goodwill, I started to have confidence and I can speak English. I'm very proud of myself. Here at Goodwill, I have a lot of friends and I'm learning many new things too."



Supawadee Prommanii (Dee)

Dee joined us last year, she has very good attendance, and is meticulous and a fast learner too. She works as a maid for an American family. She is one of our best students.

"I wouldn't be able to talk with my boss if I didn't take English class at Goodwill. I don't have to use body language anymore. I got to know many people and have a lot of friends. I have a good time whenever I come to Goodwill.".



Paiboon Auttha (Ae)

Ae is our regular on Sunday class between 3-6 pm. She has been here almost 3 years. Ae works as a housekeeper and nanny, she is one of our best students.

"I learn many things form my class at Goodwill. I can actually use what I learned in class in my daily life and my job. English class encourages me to speak English more and more. I have confidence to get a better job as I can speak English well. At Goodwill, staffs are real helpful, whenever I have problem I come here and talk to them. They always listen and give me some advices. Good things have occurred to me after I came here."



Saranya Pinturak (Aui)

Aui attends English class on Sunday morning. She also attended Internet training class.

"After I started English class here, I can build up a sentence and I can speak more of English. I can use Internet and I learn a lot more from the Internet. I have a lot of friends. Previously I didn't understand English and never want to speak. I always have my co-worker translate the phrase when my boss speaks to me. But now, I can speak English, Goodwill really helped me".



Lakkana Karaket (Tiw)

Tiw is very hard working student, she always attends class every Sunday. She is a housekeeper. She tries very hard to study English for a better job.

"Goodwill helps me to speak English and use computer. I am lucky to come and study here. Now I can use internet and send email to my classmates. I like studying English. I have a good job and better paid because of I can speak some English. It is not my dream job but this is what I can do and I am very skillful. All these come after I studied at Goodwill".
